Computer Upholstery
Thu Oct 22, 2009 4:06:39 am

My computer has not had a case for a long time. I sold the case that it was in to one of my clients, because there was physical damage to my client's case. Part of the ceiling collapsed and fell on the computer. My case was the only one I could provide quickly enough to satisfy my client.

I have decided to construct a new case for my computer. As with other things that I create, this one will be very unique. I don't have the equipment for cutting and folding sheet metal. I can improvise, but it won't be as neat if I do it without the proper tools. It's also not practical for me to precisely cut wood or acrylic. I don't have a proper workshop that will allow me to make accurate cuts. I can do it with a hand saw, but jagged and tilted edges are not aesthetically pleasing and also do not make stable structures.

I have a mitre box, but it only accommodates objects less than 4 inches in width. I could join together a lot of 4 inch wide wood panels, but that's a lot of work. I decided to make a frame out of wood. I purchased two pieces of poplar which are 1"x2"x6'. The walls will be fabric. I will have plenty of excess fabric from the shoe project, because all orders have a minimum of one yard.

Or you could just spend $25 on a case from the online retailer of your choosing.

It's more fun to build strange things.

Dr. Frankenstein thought the same thing, and look what happened to that guy.

If I could, I would create new creatures.

Build a CNC router, and you will be able to create whatever malformed abominations you feel like.
I don't have space to set up a table with guides to enable precise cuts.
