Home Shopping Network Fandom
Fri Apr 9, 2010 4:36:24 pm

I bought an electric skillet yesterday. As I was walking home with it, a girl gasped and excitedly shouted "Home Shopping Network". I didn't buy it from there, but she had no way of knowing that. This incident reminded me of my own addiction to watching HSN.

I discovered the Home Shopping Network at an electronics store in Chinatown. It was a small store and didn't even have cable internet to show off their televisions. I noticed that one of them was on channel 68. This greatly amused me, because I was not aware of the existence of this channel. I spent several weeks watching only this before I forced myself to stop. I never bought anything from them, but that was only because I knew that I would become bankrupt from buying stuff that I didn't need.

I still watch occasionally, but it's not as mesmerizing anymore.

I was obsessed with watching HSN or whatever it was called then when I was 20.

...that was a long time ago...

They have had different names?

Did you buy anything from them?

How long have they lasted. My nonstick pans never last long enough. Ordinary ones get messed up within two months. The longest lasting one I had was a Victornix which has industrial diamonds embedded in it. That lasted a whole year but started sticking after enough diamonds fell off.

I don't think so. I think I would remember if I did.

I think HSN has always been around, but I'M TOO OLD, TIRED AND WORN OUT TO REMEMBER.

Also, I can't do nonstick pans. I just destroy them without fail.

I don't recall the year when I discovered them. It was certainly before 1988.

They didn't sell anything I actually wanted, I guess. I think I was more fascinated with watching other people hawk and buy that stuff.

I wanted a lot of the things that they sold, but I resisted buying them. I think that they use a lot of subliminal advertising.

How often do you cook with them?

I was using the same skillet twice a day.

Do you use oil when you cook on them?

I never use oil until after the cooking is finished. That is probably why my pans die.

When I had cable, I would watch HSN whenever Esteban was selling a new guitar. But I never bought any. I watched more for the musical demonstration.

I mostly watched HSN before I got cable. Cable has more interesting stuff.
