Clock Position
Mon Apr 26, 2010 12:40:14 pm
I'm not sure if I should move my alarm clock closer to my bed. In it's current position, I have to get up to turn off the alarm. I could have a more gentle awakening if it were closer, because that would allow me to just reach out and turn it off while still being in bed. The main problem is that I might fall asleep again if I do that. I have a second alarm that can awaken me if this happens, but it has an extremely annoying sound.

Something preventing you from getting up at once, on time?

I can do it fine 5 times a week. Sundays and Mondays are difficult because I have to get up several hours earlier. I need time to ease into it for a comfortable awakening.

I completely get this post. This is why I usually have 3-4 alarms set. I can get up with one when I'm sleeping with someone else because I don't want to bother them with multiple alarms, but when it's just me it's so hard...

Awesome. I never heard of this before.

I don't use an alarm. I always kept it on my bedside stand, but now it's across the room since I don't have enough space for a bedside stand. I don't have problems waking up.
If you have problems waking up, keep it across the room, I say.

The only thing I have learned about alarm clock position is that I will find a way to fall back asleep regardless.

I'm guessing right now, you are used to the less annoying alarm. I say go ahead and move that one closer to the bed. If the subconscious fear of the extremely annoying sounding one doesn't keep you from falling back to sleep, having to actually hear it after falling back to sleep a few times will probably condition you to be out of bed before it goes off in the future.

I don't get up at the same time every day. Relying on my circadian rhythm won't work.If you have problems waking up, keep it across the room, I say.
