I ordered an OKI B2200 printer last week. According to amazon.com, the product weight and shipping weight are both 17.8 pounds. I had made a mental note of this because I don't have a sturdy desk to put it on. A few days later, I received an email with an order status update that included UPS tracking information. The UPS page indicated that the shipping weight was 13.30 pounds. I received the printer yesterday and the UPS label indicates 14 pounds, and the box has "Box Weight: 7kgs (15.5 lbs)" printed on it. I don't have a scale, so I don't know how much this actually weighs.
I just noticed this and I was amused:
NOM

What does it mean when someone ends a message with "J"? The first time I got this, I thought it was an error, but it has happened several times since then.
I received a canned mouse and more money than I expected.
Unfortunately, the law does not require an evaluation of the claim by an impartial third judge - the opinion of the person allegedly injured is all that is required, in order to impose such correction to any website.
Hence, anyone who feels offended by any content published on a blog, an online newspaper and, most likely, even on Wikipedia can directly request to publish a "corrected" version, aimed to contradict and disprove the allegedly harmful contents, regardless of the truthfulness of the information deemed as offensive, and its sources.
The Italian version of Wikipedia may be shutting down if DDL intercettazioni becomes law. This will require sites to make "corrections" within 48 hours of a request if content on the site offends someone. Failure to make these "corrections" would result in a €12,000 fine.
This obviously would affect many other sites, including blogstalk. Any site in which the content is not meticulously controlled by a single author/administrator would be at risk of getting fined.
Tomorrow is the deadline for finishing the project that I quit last week. I have been checking obsessively every day and there still haven't been any changes. The deadline will definitely be missed.
If meeting the deadline was so important, then a replacement for me would have been found very quickly. All the complex backend stuff has already been finished. The only "important" changes left were cosmetic. This involved changing the size of text, moving a few things around, changing a few words, etc. My client once lost sleep because I had spelled out the full state names in a drop down list instead of using two letter codes. He typically sleeps from 7pm to 4am, but he sent me a message at 1am telling me that he was losing sleep over this. That gives you an idea of what he considers "important".
I know that he hasn't cancelled the project, because he has been updating prices every day. That means he will launch the site without the important changes that he thought merited repeated harassment. The deadline itself wasn't important either. If it had been so important to start on October 1, then the business would be doomed. That implies that there is no other time when the business could be profitable, which is absolutely untrue. It's not as if there was some kind of cost involved in waiting. He isn't renting retail space or even a warehouse. This troubles me, because I suffered for nothing. I lost sleep and overworked myself for something that wasn't important.
